Overview of the U.S. Supreme Court’s October 2014 Term
I always try to keep up with what is going on in the national level courts and came across this interesting summary of the Supreme Court’s term beginning next month. The author writes that “Anyone who uses Facebook, pays taxes, enjoys fishing, drives a car, or uses railroads should take note of the upcoming Supreme Court term.” That’s because the justices will be reviewing a number of cases pertaining to these topics and other important issues.
Other significant cases scheduled to be heard will cover voting rights, speech, religious freedom, criminal law prisoners’ rights, and possibly taking on yet another challenge to Obamacare and the issue of same-sex marriage.
It will be interesting to see what develops this term, especially as the previous term was marked by significant losses for the Obama Administration, even from justices appointed by President Barack Obama, as well as a high number of unanimous, but cautious, decisions.
