Florida’s Minimum Wage Set To Rise To $8.05 On January 1

In dealing with employment law, I’m always interested in any changes that affect standards and regulations.  A recent article in the Sun-Sentinel highlighted the announcement that Florida’s minimum wage will rise to $8.05 on January 1, 2015 – up 12 cents from $7.93 this year. This increase brings Florida’s required minimum wage is to 80 cents more than the federal minimum wage, which is $7.25.

 

Raising the minimum wage has actually proven controversial in other states, but Florida’s minimum is tied to inflation through a constitutional amendment passed in 2004. On September 30 of each year, Florida’s Department of Economic Opportunity recalculates the state’s minimum wage as required by Florida’s minimum wage law.
